This May, we’re thrilled to be shining a light on Asian American Pacific Islander heritage month and “A World of Voices” celebrations! Throughout the month, the culinary teams will be showcasing some of the diverse cultures through their cuisines with both new and existing items that will delight you with each and every bite.

The chefs have taken inspiration from various cultures and put their own flair and their own personal connections they’ve infused into these dishes. While some of these Asian-inspired items are exclusive to May, including the Korean Fried Chicken Bowl with Cucumber Namasu at various Walt Disney World Resort hotels and the Bangkok Chicken Wings at Nomad Lounge, there are plenty of delicious dishes that you can enjoy all year long at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, like the Beef Bulgogi Burrito at Lucky Fortune Cookery and the Kung Pao Bao at Lamplight Lounge.

Some of the best ways to experience the cultures around you is through food, and we are very excited to share with you the many ways you can experience Asian American and Pacific Islander heritages both this month and every month at Disney Parks.

Our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering have been dreaming up new ways to honor this important milestone by turning to their own cherished memories and favorite Disney stories as they create this one-of-a-kind display.

“The Show Lighting Team at Walt Disney Imagineering has been amazed at our guests’ reaction to the nightly shows on Spaceship Earth,” said Jason Read, show lighting designer principal for Walt Disney Imagineering. “We’ve helped celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World, EPCOT’s 40th and the park’s signature festivals. Now, we’re excited to have Spaceship Earth ring in the biggest celebration yet, the 100th Anniversary of the Walt Disney Company.”

“We’re also inspired by many things from the history of the company, its characters, theme parks and shows – even the Disney100 opening logo that plays before our feature films during this anniversary,” Read continued. “You may see homages to everything from the ‘Wonderful World of Disney’ television show opening to Mickey balloons that we sell on Main Street, U.S.A.”

Whenever I make my way to Walt Disney World, I get a rush of adrenaline thinking about the magic that awaits me. So, you can only imagine my excitement when I saw the Disney100 sign at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park right in front of the entrance. If you’re like me, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to snap a few photos as a way to remember your visit during this very special celebration. This photo op is perfect for the entire family and is a great way to start your day. If you’re not going to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, don’t worry. Beginning May 1, guests can enjoy the Disney100 Petite Cake for a limited time at Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs. This mouthwatering dessert has layers of vanilla chiffon, berry mousse and berry compote, all topped with a celebratory Disney100 Medallion macaron.

The Disney Culinary team has been dreaming up all kinds of delicious dishes to commemorate the milestone, and this is just the beginning. I was lucky enough to learn about the inspiration behind this yummy dessert from Chef Amanda.

“The culinary team has the wonderful opportunity to use food for storytelling,” Chef Amanda said. “We get to make special themed treats that bring guests into the story, letting them feel immersed in a tangible and very delicious way.”

“The inspiration of this cake pulls from the rich purple and platinum colors used for the Disney100 celebration,” Chef Amanda shared. “The drapery on the sides of the cake represents the traditional bunting that adorns Main Street, U.S.A. for special occasions. And of course, Mickey Mouse is proudly represented on the front of the cake because as we all know: ‘It all started with a mouse.’”

You may have spotted and already started to collect some of the amazing Disney100 merchandise that’s popping up at Walt Disney World. Ever wondered if Disney’s California Grill is actually worth the hype? Real life MouseDining user, Ashley recently used MouseDining to score a prime time dining reservation to enjoy the special 50th Anniversary 3-course tasting menu and fireworks show with a friend. And lucky for you, she gave us a play-by-play of her experience!

Here’s what Ashley of Pixie & Magic had to say about her experience dining at Disney’s California Grill restaurant:

“Now my experience at California Grill was absolutely amazing! For this being my first time it definitely gave me a good impression! The service from the Cast Members were exceptional! Our waiter, Walter, was so much fun and helped us picked some yummy dishes! Right now they have a 3-Course Meal to celebrate the 50th Celebration! From the drinks to the main course and ending with dessert everything was to perfection! And it didn’t hurt that you saw Space Mountain (my fave) and Cinderella’s Castle as your view.”

Ashley ordered the Rainbow Roll (Tuna, Salmon, Hamachi, Avocado, Mango, Pickled Watermelon Radish) for her California Grill appetizer:

For her main course, she ordered the Cast Iron-grilled Pork Tenderloin (Goat Cheese Polenta, Forest Mushrooms, Lacquered Pork Belly, Root Spinach, Corn, Zinfandel Glaze):

Here’s a quick rundown of the California Grill restaurant highlights:

  • This restaurant is located in Walt Disney World at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
  • On the 15th floor of the hotel, guests enjoy a view of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom park while they dine. This dining experience is known as one of the best for catching the Magic Kingdom fireworks display.
  • Only dinner reservations are available at California Grill. 
  • The dress code for the California Grill restaurant is described by Disney as, “Sophisticated and upscale aesthetic. Clothing should be clean, neat and in good condition. Please no swimwear.”

EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is here and in full swing! The festival will run from March 1  to July 5, 2023 and there are more than 15 Outdoor Kitchens blooming with delicious eats and sips that are sure to satisfy your palate. As we are gearing up for TRON Lightcycle / Run presented by Enterprise to blast off in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park in just a few short weeks, we’ve also got some exciting foodie news for you. Tomorrowland will soon be home to another new foodie spot – Energy Bytes!

This new kiosk will be serving up some tasty eats and sips for you to grab, drawing inspiration from the futuristic environment around you. Whether you’re looking for some breakfast bites, savory snacks, sweet treats, or refreshing beverages, this new spot will soon become a go-to pitstop as you venture into the world of Tomorrowland.

For those wanting a sweet start to the day, the tasty Chocolate Cake Doughnut Holes topped with mocha sauce are a perfect option. With each “byte” you’ll be begging for more! The coffee lovers out there will also have a new caffeinated beverage to try – Joffrey’s Cold Brew Coffee topped with a yummy mocha sauce. This iced sip is the perfect combination of that classic coffee flavor with a touch of sweetness. These will surely be on my list to start my Magic Kingdom morning!

Digital Dumplings – Buffalo Chicken and Digital Dumplings – Beef & Broccoli from Brand-New Energy Bytes at Magic Kingdom Park

Now onto the savory options. If you love buffalo chicken and dumplings, you’re in luck because Energy Bytes is combining both of these classics into one delicious concoction – Digital Dumplings – Buffalo Chicken. Yes, you heard that right. This bite perfectly combines chicken dumplings, blue cheese powder, and cayenne pepper broth.

And these aren’t the only dumplings coming to Tomorrowland. There is another dish soon to be served up. The Digital Dumplings – Beef & Broccoli is out of this world as it transforms this iconic dish into dumpling form with beef dumplings, broccoli pesto, and ginger-soy broth. How delicious! I don’t know about you, but these snacks are already making me hungry.

Strawberry IceOform from Brand-New Energy Bytes at Magic Kingdom Park

For those looking for a little sweet pick-me-up, Energy Bytes has you covered too. The Strawberry IceOform is the ultimate refreshing treat with the sweetness of the strawberry ice cream mochi, graham crackers, and even a little bit of cheesecake foam to finish it off. It not only looks beautiful but tastes great too!

Watermelon Refresher from Brand-New Energy Bytes at Magic Kingdom Park

Last, but certainly not least, we’ve got the Watermelon Refresher with yuzu and gingerThis frozen sip will take you to another world with tasty flavors. Just take a peek at how good it looks! It’ll be the perfect accompaniment for any of the other yummy items available at this location.
