Be Our Guest Switches to Prix Fixe Dinner: What to Know Before You Go

Restaurant Reviews By October 10, 2018 Tags: , , No Comments

Disney’s popular Be Our Guest menu has changed. Here’s what’s new with the 3-course Prix Fixe Dinner!

When Be Our Guest opened in 2012 it was unlike anything else. The restaurant was unique in offering Counter Service by day for breakfast and lunch, but Table Service dining each evening. Additionally Be Our Guest was the first restaurant in Magic Kingdom to serve beer and wine.

Today, it remains one of the rare restaurants where Advance Dining Reservations are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

While guests can still enjoy a la carte Counter Service for lunch during the day, the biggest change to Be Our Guest’s menu involves its new “Prix Fixe” Dinner.

Before, the Table Service Dinner options were done via classic-style menus. Guests could skip over appetizers and focus on entrées, or vice-versa. You might even sit down for just some dessert at the end of the evening, and still gain access to the Beast’s castle and all its magic!

Guests simply exchanged a single Table Service Credit on their Disney Dining Plan, or paid out of pocket.

However, recently Be Our Guest switched exclusively to a 3-course final meal known as the Prix Fixe Dinner.

You may have already heard some frustration attached to this change when it comes to the cost. Because the Prix Fixe Dinner is considered to be a “Signature” experience, it now requires two Table Service Credits instead of just one.

(Pro-tip! Tables in Wonderland cardholders have access to a 20% discount, and Annual Passholders get a 10% discount!)

The out-of-pocket price seems to be a better option. Arguably both are if you’re hungry enough to get your money’s worth! Set at $35 per child (9 and under) and $55 for adults, a quick summary of the lusciously updated menu reveals how diners are really getting the better deal.

A Taste of the Menu

Walt Disney World’s explanation for going prix fixe was to “enhance” the menu with “exquisite, delicious cuisine” and an “experience that will make you feel like royalty”.

So far critics give the change their approval after experiencing the elevated tastes within the already enriched castle atmosphere.

(For some of our favorite reviews and insights click here and here!)

Dinner begins with a house-made Sourdough Loaf accompanied by butter sprinkled with coarse salt. Guests then have their choice of an appetizer and entrée, but dessert is pretty much the same for everyone.

Choose an appetizer from several new and old French-inspired favorites. In addition to the infamous Onion Soup, you will now find a Maine Lobster Bisque and Charred Octopus.

Kids can choose either an Iceberg Wedge Salad or a Fruit and Cheese Plate.

All-new and improved entrées include a Grilled Center-Cut Filet Mignon, Smoked Ricotta and Corn Tortellini, Poulet Rouge Chicken, Saffron-Infused Seafood Bouillabaisse, Spice-Dusted Lamb Chops, and Roasted Pork Tenderloin.

Be Our Guest’s most kid-approved entrée is “Beast’s Casserole”, aka house-made Mac & Cheese. There’s also a Pan-seared Chicken Breast or Seared Shrimp Skewer.

3-Course Dessert? Yes, Please!

Saving room for dessert is a must! Even if you’re too full to finish, the consensus is in that this finale is one of Disney’s most Instagram-worthy treats to date!

The “Dessert Trio” features an Almond Macaron with Lemon Jam and Raspberries and a Dark Chocolate Truffle filled with Dark Chocolate Grand Marnier Ganache.

But the best part has to be the White Chocolate “Chip” Cup: a white chocolate replica of the real Chip from Beauty and the Beast! (And he’s full of Oreo “Grey Stuff” and Crisp Pearls!)

Mini fans will love the kid-size version of the Dessert Trio! It has a special twist: little pools of blue, yellow, and red icing and a small paintbrush. Your budding artists get the chance to “paint” Chip and create his face!

Newly Re-imagined Restaurant: Lamplight Lounge

Restaurant Reviews By September 20, 2018 Tags: , , , No Comments

Next week marks 3 months since Disney California Adventure opened admission to a first of its kind Pixar-inspired park. Previously known as Paradise Pier, the newly renovated Pixar Pier is no doubt described as “incredible”… and not just because it features an attraction based on our favorite Disney superhero family!

When I see the name Pixar, the very first thing I picture is their signature intro. It’s hard to imagine Pixar’s “I” as anything but the mischievous Luxo Lamp Jr. after being squished by a few eager jumps!

Yes, that is the little lamp’s official name just in case you didn’t know! In fact “Luxo Jr.” is the first short film ever produced by Pixar Animation Studios. (Can you guess who made their grand debut in that one?)

It seems only fitting that the re-imagined Lamplight Lounge should welcome Disney adventurers at the beginning of the pier’s newest story.

An Authentic Atmosphere

For fans who find themselves wondering about what happens behind-the-scenes, Lamplight Lounge is sure to please.

Get ready for more than just table-service dining and gorgeous panoramic shots of Paradise Bay. Immerse in décor specifically curated in dedication to the very storytellers who create the Pixar films and shorts treasured by so many.

This is THE exclusive, up close and personal look at artists and animators who bring Pixar plots to life. So be sure to explore every last unique detail of all that’s been left behind by the studios’ “regulars”!

From scattered sketches showing off the design process to handwritten feedback notes and shelves housing toys of the final characters, diners can’t help but feel like they’re part of a Pixar storyboard.

The actual Pixar Studios doesn’t allow public tours, but we’ve confirmed this lounge replicates pieces of its interior design. That means for now, it’s the closest any fan will get to finding out how some of the magic happens!

(Want to learn more about Lamplight Lounge’s look? Click here to read up on 7 insider facts to know before you go!)

A Taste of the Menu

The fun continues with Lamplight Lounge’s purposely playful menu. This California casual gastro-pub starts things off with appetizers referred to as shareable “Bites,” which range from $12.00 – $18.00 in price. Rumor has it, the Guest-favorite is already chosen: Lobster Nachos.

Exactly as they sound, these House-made Tortilla Chips are smothered with warm Lobster, Black Beans, Pico de Gallo, Chipotle Crema, Aged Cheddar, and Oaxaca Cheese.

Looking to keep it traditional? We recommend a classic: Potato Skins. Crispy Yukon Gold Potatoes are topped with Brown Butter-Caper Yogurt, Smoked Paprika Aïoli, and Manchego Cheese.

If you’re extra hungry head on over to the Downstairs Dining Area for “Bigger Bites” (entrees), the “Budding Artists” kid’s menu, or a little something sweet. Bigger Bites are priced at $23 and under, and kids eat for just $10!

Bigger Bites include a grilled Cheddar Burger, crispy Chicken Sandwich, Salmon PLT, and salad options. Our mouths are set of course on Chef Remy’s recommendation. When in Pixar Pier, why not try some Ratatouille?

If your “Budding Artist” is also a picky eater, well then there’s Mini Burger Sliders, PB and J Rolls, and pasta to the rescue. Plus lunch and dinner get easier to finish with dessert on the line, especially when it’s warm, fluffy donuts alongside delicious dipping sauces!

For the full menu and pricing, click here!

Creativity in Your Cup

This time mom and dad aren’t the only ones with fancy drinks! The Lamplight Lounge offers an array of “mocktail” non-alcoholic beverages, and we can’t help but admire their names and drool over the ingredients!

Monster’s Inc. lovers will have to order a 2319. Frozen Strawberry Purée, Cream of Coconut, and Pineapple Juice mixed and topped with Coco-Cola make this a drink that’s truly for kids of all ages.

Reach infinity and beyond with Infinity Fizz: Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, Apple Juice, and Cherry Pearls. Or try Falling With Style: Odwalla Lemonade and Mango Purée.

Adults, don’t forget this is a lounge! Lamplight boasts an impressive draft, bottle, and can beer selection in addition to 14 wines available per glass or by the bottle.

But for the children at heart, you may want to skip straight to the specialty drinks with their own nod to Pixar film-making. The Scream Canister, Over Budget, Plot Twist, and The Short are just a few!

Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival: Now With Bigger Fun for Little Ones!

Special Events By September 4, 2018 Tags: , No Comments

Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival is back and bibbidi-bobbidi-better than ever before with 4 new kid-approved attractions! From August 30th through November 12th, we’ve compiled this need-to-know guide on Disney’s most family-friendly food festival yet!

Since its debut in 1996, the Epcot Food & Wine Festival has grown to include 65 wineries and over 40 breweries. While the annual Disney extravaganza has previously catered to fans of all ages, this year is set to be an unforgettable experience for parents with aspiring foodies to entertain.

THE BASICS

Entrance into the Food & Wine Festival is free with Epcot park admission, which starts at $102. Because of its size, regular attendees of the festival recommend at least 2 days. However, it’s definitely worth checking out even if you can only make Epcot a one-day stop.

Don’t forget to grab a Food & Wine Passport before you start the day. You can keep track of where you’ve been and document all the daring new flavors you (and your brave kiddos) may try!

Pro-tip! Watch for a “strawberry” symbol at food booths! It signals there are foods available made especially with kids in mind.

Pro-tip! Are you using Disney Dining Plan credits? You can trade a quick service meal credit for three snack items from any single food booth! (The food booths around World Showcase open at 11am!)

DISNEY’S NEW FREE KID-FRIENDLY FESTIVAL FUN

Disney’s exciting new kid-approved festival stations are free with admission and will certainly keep your little ones smiling in-between every bite!

DIY Candy Sushi

Twice daily (3:30pm and 5:30pm) Disney chefs will aid in this interactive candy sushi-making workshop. It is located in the Sunshine Seasons food court at the Land Pavilion. Because space is limited, be sure to register here!

“Fun Zone” Playground & Sweet Snacks

Located near the Test Track marketplace in Future World East, this festival play area is inspired by Ralph Breaks the Internet. (The epic upcoming sequel to Wreck-It Ralph!) Refuel with nearby themed treats like the new “Pancake Milkshake” and croissant doughnuts topped with cinnamon sugar, chocolate and marshmallows, chocolate hazelnut cream, or sprinkles!

Disney du Jour Character Dance Party

Follow the tunes to the Fountain View Stage in Future World! From 5:30-9:30pm every Friday and Saturday festival goers can enjoy music, dances, and activities for kids of all ages. This is one party you won’t want to miss because some of your favorite classic Disney Duos will be dropping by each weekend. Look out for Remy & Emile from Ratatouille, Judy Hopps & Nick Wilde from Zootopia, Lilo & Stitch, Chip ‘n Dale, and Clarabelle Cow & Horace Horsecollar! Furthermore, each dance party features a special concert appearance by an up-and-coming Radio Disney artist!

The Junior Chef Kitchen

Every Sunday morning at 11am this interactive experience takes place at the Festival Center. Under the supervision of a Disney chef, learn how to make your own pancakes complete with tasty decorations. (And enough time to devour your creation!) Due to limited space, registration is only available at the Festival Center on Saturdays and Sundays.

EXTRA FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Remy’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak Scavenger Hunt

A noteworthy Food & Wine Festival family tradition! The Hide & Squeak Scavenger Hunt map and sticker sets are usually under $8. But as a result you receive an exclusive small prize at the end no matter how far you get. The goal is to match food item stickers to their corresponding location where Remy can be found “hiding out”. He will be holding whatever food is on each sticker. Find a home for all the stickers on your map and you will discover the “ingredients” Remy needs to make his special dish!

Pro-tip! When searching for Remy regular festival-goers say above all else, remember to look up!

Eat to the Beats Meals

Attend nightly concerts at 5:30pm, 6:45pm, and 8:00pm in the America Gardens Theatre at Epcot World Showcase. This year’s performers include Blue October, MercyMe, Baha Men, Plain White T’s, Jim Belushi & The Sacred Hearts, and Smash Mouth! Save big with all-inclusive packages that combine one breakfast, lunch, or dinner at participating Epcot restaurants with guaranteed seating at the concert series. (To see the full list of performers and participating restaurants, click here!)

Festival Center Open Early

If you’re an early bird, the Festival Center opens 2 hours before food booths at 9am! Get busy planning for the day ahead as you sip on coffee from Joffrey’s Specialty Disney Collection. Or investigate the new Shimmering Sips Mimosa Bar (yes, also open at 9am) where you will find a kid-friendly drink by the name of “Frozen Apple Pie”.
